Resonant Mode Coupling in δ Scuti Stars

Delta Scuti ($\delta$ Sct) variables are intermediate mass stars that lie at the intersection of main sequence and instability strip on Hertzsprung-Russel diagram. Various lines evidence indicate nonlinear mode interactions shape their oscillation spectra, including particularly compelling detection resonantly interacting triplets in $\delta$ Sct star KIC 8054146. Motivated by these observations, we use theory three-mode coupling to study strength prevalence fourteen models span strip. For each model, calculate frequency detunings strengths $\sim 10^4$ unique combinations triplets. We find all contain least 100$ well-coupled whose consistent with identified Our results suggest resonant can be significant may explain why many exhibit rapid changes amplitude period.
